Need some weekday 🍷red inspo ​? Lately, I’ve been feeling red wines from the Italian Piedmontese region which sits on Italy’s Northernwestern border facing the Swiss Alps. Though this region is often known for its 🤵🏻serious fancy wines like Barolo or Barbaresco - the ones that 🇮🇹Italians drink on the daily are just as tasty and perfect from your everyday wine drinking. Try these guys out and let us know what you think 😋
Dolcetto (dohl CHET to) dry, light bodied red that is often the first red wine that is served in a Piedmontese meal. Look for ones from the Dogliani, Diano D'Alba or Alba.
Barbera (bar BEAR ah) Second most widely planted red grape variety in Italy, it's a bit richer than the Dolcetto and has black-cherry fruit character. Look for ones from Alba or Asti.
Nebbiolo (neb bee OH lo) made from Nebbiolo grapes whose name is derived  from nebbia, the Italian word for “fog.”It has stronger tannins (which creates a grippy tongue feel) than the other two and best-paired food to counterbalance the grip. Look for ones from D'Alba or Langhe.

love bitters, want to learn more?  Check out  Amor y Amargo (Spanish for “love and bitter”) the country’s first bitter-based bar. In fact, there still aren’t many like it today. It comfortably seats 12 people. What is Amargo? Amari (plural tense of the word) are created by macerating herbs, flowers, roots, and bark into neutral spirits or wine. They can be aged in cask, oak, or bottle.

what’s up with our hater-ade for sweet wines the most popular wines in America have a discernible sweetness to them, yet we all claim that we hate sweet wines 🤥. Eric Asimov goes on a tangent about it, but I think the most interesting thing to note is that the perception of sweetness, does not depend on the actual level of sugar 🍬in the wine, but by how well it is balanced by acidity 🍋. That is the key difference between a sweet wine that gives you a sickening feel 😬versus one that is refreshing 😊.
